My letter to the editor got printed in the San Jose Mercury News. *moderately pleased with himself*

-----

Bill Clinton was re-elected president after allegations of sexual harassment, and evidence of his misconduct continued to mount throughout his second term, including at least one accusation of rape. He publicly denied such behavior twice, once under oath, before the evidence finally became too much. But organizations such as NOW continued to support him to the bitter end, claiming his personal behavior had nothing to do with his ability to hold office.

Within 24 hours of a set of accusations he could have denied just as easily, at least right through the election, Arnold Schwarzenegger has come clean and made a public apology. Yet now the entire Democratic Party is vociferous that such a man could never represent women.

Before they sling another stone, they would do well to remember who set the bar for "behaving badly."

Really, I wouldn't call that Republican content so much as "common sense" content. ;) Despite not being Republican, I think the same way on this particular issue. Most people can't even admit when they've done something wrong, so to blast the guy for acknowledging a mistake and apologizing is pretty pathetic.

Yeah, I agree, that was a brave thing for him to do.

Didn't you know? There's no internal consistency in politics.

Let "Our Guy" = the politician running for office in your party.
Let "Their Guy" = the politician running for office in the opposition party.

Politics lives and breathes by one rule above all others: "Our guy can do no wrong. Their guy can do no good. Adapt and adjust all condemnations and praise to suit this fundamental precept."

Watch Crossfire on CNN for a while. Then you get a REAL good idea of how it works.
