shirenomadI've been busier than expected the past couple days, though most of it it my own fault (putting off work too long). Anyway, that explains my lack of updates recently.
Much of the recent action has been centered around my first serious tourist trip since I got here: five of the eight of us are going to Hiroshima this weekend. We discovered yesterday that we couldn't order train tickets through the local travel agency this late because they wouldn't be here by the time we wanted to leave (Friday), so we spent first period today (the only time we all had free) going to and from the Japan Rail office at the Ootsuki hub and arranging the trip there. (Yes, we had to buy train tickets to go to Ootsuki to buy train tickets. Yes, I think it's stupid too, but what can you do?)
Anyway, we got five reserved seats on a two-train trip from Ootsuki to Tokyo to Hiroshima this Friday, and then back again Sunday. We're still on our own getting from Tsuru to Ootsuki, but that's only 450 yen and half an hour each way, so no prob, so long as we get to the station before our train leaves. Glad my suitcase is wheeled, though; it'll make the walk to the station easier.
