Seasonal miscellany...
Dec. 31st, 2006 10:53 pmMy brother and I know by now that our grandmother would prefer our company to any more tangible gifts, so last Tuesday was spent buying her lunch and tickets to Charlotte's Web. She enjoys movies like that, and we thought it might be a good nostalgic film for us two. Those who have never read the book probably won't enjoy it all that much, but those who have will enjoy the trip down Memory Lane. Applause to the animators who, without removing anything that made Charlotte look or act spider-like (even had a spider's mouth instead of something more "normal" looking), nonetheless made her likable. Julia Roberts's voice may have helped on that front.
It's not Christmas break without game night! This year we didn't have Andrew but we DID recruit the Starnes family. Bill Starnes is a friend of Mom and Dad, and he brought his wife and his (lovely ;D) daughter Amy. We started with their contribution, Cranium, where we discovered that Bill and I made an unstoppable combo for Humdinger rounds -- he hummed and I guessed the song almost immediately. Thus our team was victorious. Then came Citadels, which JW brought but had never played himself. But the rules were easy enough to pick up, even for those of us who weren't dedicated gamers. Dad avoided any losses, got some good buildings out early, and generally crushed us all by the end.
See you all in 2007.
