...that a party which never existed in real life can wear me out completely?

I couldn't remember a little factoid on one of the worlds I'm writing about, so I hunted around until I found a couple good sites on the subject. And by the time I found my answer, I had noticed a few other areas where I had described something inaccurately... okay, a LOT of areas. So finally I just torn through the sites from beginning to end, looking for any other errors that might have snuck into my writing. Came out with a list of corrections a mile high (thankfully, nothing fatal to the overall plot). I'm nothing if not thorough, but sometimes I wish I could just let mistakes be. >_

I've been meaning to teach myself at least the basics of Photoshop CG work for some time, but I had three things holding me back: no tablet, no scanner, and... no Photoshop. The first roadblock was a bit annoying but there was nothing stopping me from using the mouse (less precise, but oh well). And I could get plenty of pre-scanned line art from various sources, so the lack of scanner wasn't really a problem either. That left Photoshop, which there was no way in hell I would be able to afford a copy of. So imagine my pleasure at discovering a freeware CG program. Has a lot of Photoshop features, and although it's a bit of a hassle in places, I couldn't argue with the price.

So I downloaded and installed the sucker, opened up a few web tutorials that still seemed to apply, and then spent the afternoon practicing on Shade's B&W drawing of my alter-ego. Here's the result. I still don't like the shading (or lack thereof) on and around the wing, and in hindsight I wish I'd done some work on the horns too, but otherwise I think it's not half bad for my first try. Any advice/pointers/criiticism from the more experienced artists out there are always welcome.

[update: And in case you haven't noticed yet, I made an appropriate alteration to my default image.]

Sorry. My roommate and I are both enrolled in a game development course, and for some inexplicable reason, he wants to make the main character of his game a hamster. That was the first idea that sprung to mind.

Sat down and did the first real work on "Journey Home" (that little Mina semi-musefic, title tentative) in three weeks. Not sure if I like how it's turning out; I'll probably go back and do some heavy editing for the most recent parts. Also not sure if Fujin's getting involved or not. I've got a side story running parallel, mostly inspired by a Vic comment long ago (yes, THAT one, Vic), but I'm not sure how much I can do with it. I may toss it entirely if it looks as tacked on when I'm done as it does now, but then, Cloud's involvement in "Homesick" was practically thrown in at the last minute too...

So which letter of the alphabet matches YOUR personality, huh?

Ironically appropriate. I still don't know where they're getting these letters, though.

I've been debating whether to unload my long-dormant MST team on this piece. I'd feel a lot more comfortable ripping it apart if I didn't have the sneaking suspicion it was written by a four-year-old. (Actually, I wrote a few short stories at about the same age with about the same skill.) Of course, the odds of the author actually discovering my MST of the fic are slim at best, so I'm not likely to destroy that young writing spirit... and I've been really itching to see if I can still MST with the best of them... Maybe if I just spiced up the story without actually attacking the original writing. Anyone else got advice on the matter?

That little plot point you came up with yesterday on the board? Well, it sorta snowballed in my mind and now I can't concentrate on anything else. I keep going back to it and thinking "...then this could happen! And meanwhile this could be going on! And person X is going to do this when she figures it out, and Y is going to realize it instantly but might not care..."

Yep, I'm pathetic.
