I was out for most of today running errands, so before I left I turned on four separate Bit Torrent files and just let them run. I've done that before, usually overnight. Not like I need the bandwidth for something else. So I get back around five hours later... and find that my computer's frozen. I have to reboot.

Did anyone here know that BTs don't resume properly if they aren't exited properly? Had to start all four downloads from scratch.

But I'm okay! I reset everything, and leave for anime club. Come back four hours later.

...guess what I found.

Living Bagels (CBS, 6:30): cmzero (Adam Sandler) bites woodenshack (Ice Cube). On the other side of town, ren_narf (Stephen Baldwin) hypnotizes cassaclyzm (Claire Forlani) but it doesn't work. Meanwhile, jumi (Jason Lee) buys testgames (Harry Connick Jr.)'s old coffee mug. The week after, matadin (Uma Thurman) draws a picture on chime (Beverley Mitchell)'s forehead. Also, jhardin (Justin Timberlake) gets thunderphoenix (Charlize Theron) drunk. Craziness ensues.

I've noticed that the same names get the same actors. Although it's nice that they're consistant, did I really have to get assigned Adam Sandler?

You can resume BitTorrent files again, no matter how far along they were in downloading. No worries. Kinda bitchy, but no worries.

That's true. You can resume downloads from the point where you last stopped it properly (by clicking on "cancel"). That's evidently when it saves progress. If you kill the download in some other manner (like the "reset" button on the computer), anything since that last save is lost.

I started all four at the beginning yesterday morning. Ergo...

That happened to me too - my computer spontaneously rebooted a couple weeks ago while I was in the middle of getting GB41... and the partial file seemed to be there when it came back up, but nothing was actually IN the partial file, so I started from scratch.

Weird thing is, after that, I had the eternal string of error messages pop up, so I closed BT down normally and rebooted... and after that, I couldn't resume either.

I wonder if my BT got really screwed up with the spontaneous reboot, and now I have to reinstall it or something. I mean, I've gotten GB 42-44 since then with no problems... but I never had to stop the download and resume later, either.

On Linux BitTorrent you can at least, but I assume they are pretty much the same. I was using BitTorrent and about 95% done when my power went out. I restarted BitTorrent after I booted up. It said it started from 0%, but that was just a hash check. It got up to 95% and started downloading again.

Then that's the Linux version.

Or that advanced beta with the extra features (how many uploads you want off your system, etc.) If so, maybe I should switch to that, though I'm normally a bit paranoid about running betas.

But trust me, I've resumed BT downloads under better conditions before. I know what the hash check looks like. It completed the hash check, start to finish, and THEN displayed 0%.
