Movie night!

Watched not one but TWO movies last night, neither in English. First was "Waterboys", a silly Japanese film about five high school guys who get talked into forming a male synchronized swimming team. Sort of like "Cool Runnings" in both mood and concept. No subtitles, but you could get the gist of it most of the time (and we had a few tutors there to explain the harder parts).

Second was "Shaolin Soccer"... which really doesn't need any more explanation than the title. Totally over-the-top so-stupid-it's-fun kung fu. And some good special effects.

Is that really what it sounds like? (I thought the term "soccer" was just an Americanism that no other countries recognized...)

It is EXACTLY what it sounds like. A bunch of Shaolin experts forming a soccer team. (And the title was the translation, which was presumably made first and foremost for American audiences. Dunno what the Mandarin is for soccer/football.)
