I remember once hearing of a story (possibly apocryphal) of a man who applied for a position in HR for a major company, then got the job informally (skipping the interview process, etc.) due to connections in the company. Three months in he got an official rejection letter from the company for his application, which explained that they did not feel he was qualified for the position. Looking more closely, he saw that he had signed it.

I hope this is true, because it's a wonderful indictment of bureaucracy if it is.
