Anyone ever read Rising Sun by Michael Crichton?

There's this part where one of the main characters discovers a video clip is edited. And she isn't outraged that it's a forgery; she's outraged that it's such a BAD forgery, it means the forger expected the person analyzing the video to be a total retard.

I feel like her right now. Seriously, look at the smoke clouds. I could do a better Photoshopping job in half an hour.

[EDIT] Looks like Reuters got a clue; the image is off their site now. Here's what you missed...

Heh. I lol'd.
But. Crazy as it seems, people do believe pictures like that. And my family, oh god. I have pages of a calendar with wolf photos around my room.. and my aunts looking at one..she goes.. 'oh this is amazing, look at the detail of this........hm... this HAS to be a photo.' ...... *wow* ... they can't tell the difference between art and photos a lotta times :[

Your aunt made my head hurt.

That aside, yeah, that's such a mind-blowingly bad PS.

If anything, I feel stupid because I can't really tell why it has to be photoshopped. I mean...it's a Yahoo news Reuters photo and no one else has commented that it's a fake and pointed out that people using it as news are lying?

And yeah...about the editing -- I guess the smoke looks a bit weird, but what are the giveaways? The fact that you can see the city too clearly through the left cloud? Why would they edit the picture anyway? Where is all the uproar? I want answers. T___T

I guess those two patterns in the cloud, sure. But why? o_O

(and if it wasn't clear, I was pondering why someone would fake the picture). =P

Ooh, very good point. For some reason, I was trying to think if the photographer wanted Israel to look like it was having more success or something. =P

But yeah, that makes more sense, and thanks for the informational link! :)
