Used some of my free time today to run errands, including a trip to a bike store to get a lock, a headlight, and a helmet that fits better and doesn't look dorky. I'm pleased to discover that, though I'm fairly certain I haven't so much as touched a bicycle since the Clinton Administration, I can still survive six miles there, six miles back, though I won't be winning any speed trials. ...Well, okay, this was the second time I tried biking anywhere on the loaner from Brian; the first time was Sunday morning, to a far point on campus, and the "there" part wore me out so fast I was nauseous for several minutes on arrival (though that may have been the Breakfast Burrito I had shortly before leaving). I think my body's figured out it had better get used to this since I'm vehicle-less, because I didn't get many complaints this time.
Anyway, blew about a hundred bucks for the new gear, including a fairly nice helmet that fit very well and was on sale. You know, they talk about how those fancy helmet designs are aerodynamic and all, but I didn't believe it until I got back on the road and felt the difference almost instantly. Plus it gave my head some much appreciated air flow.
In other news, looks like I'll be up for a bit longer, as the laundry's taking way longer than expected. (The washer and dryer here are a lot smaller than I'm used to, so two loads turned into four. Looks like I'm going to need to do this weekly.)
