I refer, of course, to karaoke. (Thankfully, we got a private booth. ^^;)

My first song was Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun" simply because it was the first one on the list I recognized. That was probably a mistake; I hadn't actually heard it played in ages, and I'd forgotten how long, slow, and dreary it is. Shortly after I stunk up the joint with that one, I found that I had been poking through the "new additions" list and that there was an entire list of American music at the back of the catalog. (Thank God for small blessings.) Because a) I don't like the idea of singing anything I haven't heard sung before (lest I botch the timing and... well, everything else), and b) I doubted I could decipher Nihongo no lyrics fast enough to keep up, I pretty much stuck to that portion for the rest of our two hours. (With one exception: I found Mai Yamane's "Blue" by pure accident, which I knew was in English. Additionally, I love that song. So naturally I decided I'd butcher it. :p)

After not doing too bad with U2's "Where the Streets Have No Name", I made my final mistake by getting ambitious with my big finish. Dunno what made me think I could keep up with the rapidly changing pace and key of "Bohemian Rhapsody", but I made the attempt... and I failed miserably. >_< Probably scared the Kitai's away from Queen for life.

But I still have my pride, because I got to hear Mr. Kitai absolutely murder a little song by Bon Jovi ("Itsu Mai Raifu"). Also a slow romantic song, which was in Japanese except for the last two lines of the chorus, which I got to hear him sing repeatedly: "I'm just a woman; fall in love."
