That was one of the most thought provoking things I've read in weeks. I think your points are valid to all of fiction, not just science fiction. From 1984 to Brave New Word to Lord of the Flies (yes all distopians but you'll get my point) not only to the readers treat them as if they were real life examples, but we legislate based on our fear of them.
