VERY behind schedule...
1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me"
2. I will respond by asking you five questions. I get to pick the questions.
3. You will update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.
And about two weeks after someone first gave me a set of questions:
From
chime:
1. If you could date, once, a main, or at least recurring-supportive, character from Buffy or Angel, who would it be? (Assume she wants to date you, even if this is out of her character.)
Willow's a possibility -- brilliant, adorable, slightly shy -- but we've all learned how well she takes rejection, and she's still got issues in general. Fred's got all the same pros, but physically she's one of the females I'm LEAST attracted to on either show (eat something, girl!) Actually, given your "out of her character" comment, I'd have to say Tara: gentle, caring, supportive, yet willing to point out where I'm wrong when I need to hear it. Either her or Fred+20 lbs.
2. What if it were a relationship rather than one date?
Same. I never date anyone I don't intend to keep dating until she gives me a reason to stop. (Of course, she could always prove to be totally not my type on the first date, in which case it would end there, but we're assuming I've learned enough from watching the show so that this is unlikely.)
3. What do you think is the appropriate amount of time to boil a partridge egg, to make sure the yolk's good and solid, but not overcooked?
...
4. Who's your favorite 1/0 character?
Does Tailsteak count? But actually, I think my favorite is Marcus, at least while he was fourth-walled. I'm already interested in theology and cosmology (the latter made the philosophies of the entire group a major selling point of the strip for me), and here comes a guy mulling over the nature of the spiritual in a universe where I (and everyone else) already know all the answers. It was fascinating, for me at least, to watch his views slowly change from "athiest" to "panthiest" to "new age" and so on in a logical progression. And also to see him annoy the others.
5. If you had the ability to permanently erase one person's entire memory, replacing it with something unspectacular, and seclude said person in some small town where he or she would never be found or recognized and no trace of his/her former life would ever surface, kind of like Tommy Lee Jones' character before MiB2 happened--and you for some reason were forced to use this ability once--who would you do it to?
In other words, who would I like to have whacked, but without those pesky moral quandaries of there being actual killing involved. My first instinct is to say Bin Laden, just to get rid of him, but given there's an international manhunt for him, I'd hate to leave our armed forces chasing a guy they'll never find. Going with the same train of thought, Kim Jong-il seems like a good prospect; then again, yanking him will just let another dictator take his place. It's not like his predecessor was any better. Castro? Well, I know people have been saying this for a while, but the guy's closing in on 80; he can't last much longer. I need to find someone who established a dangerous regime on his own and looks like he'll hold it for a while unless someone acts directly. Probably either Qaddafi or Niyazov.

1. Where do you expect to be five years from now? Where would you want to be?
Well, if I'm not employed to the point where I can live on my own, I'm doing something wrong. That's where I expect to be; where I want to be is earning enough to live comfortably (car, large apartment, some investments, large DVD collection), plus a love interest of choice. And a cat. A cat would be nice.
2. What's the one thing you're looking forward to the most at Andrew's upcoming graduation?
Well, a bit late to be answering this one. Still, I'd say that as of the time I got on the plane, the thing I was looking forward to the most was just having us all in one place for a few days. Odds are, I won't see your face again until Christmas now.
3. What was the one thing you did during you college years that you most wish you could take back?
I kinda wish I had figured out my second-year roommate sooner. I'd made a lot of assumptions about roommates in general based on my freshman year experiences with Calvin, and then... crap, I don't even remember his name now. David? Well, I'll go with that unless I remember otherwise. Anyway, David was definitely an only child, and he had a lot more personal space issues than Calvin ever did, and when I walked all over them with the preconception that roommates sharing stuff was the natural, unvoiced way of things, disaster was inevitable. I don't thin we ever would have been best buds or anything like that, given our different interests and personalities, but at least I would have avoided a year of simmering tension.
4. Are you writing any fiction now? If not, what was the last thing you wrote?
Working on a quickie boardfic (CRFH boardies, think PFF, but for my other major online community). As a matter of fact, I've been working on it for way longer than intended, though with class out, hopefully I'll have more time. Even scribbled out another scene Saturday morning before the rest of you woke up.
5. Since I'm fairly certain you've played both, which is better HL2 or Doom3? Why?
Joke's on you; I haven't touched Doom 3 and am still working my way through Half-Life 2. From what I've seen of Dad playing Doom, I must say that I think the mood is better on that game than Half-Life (using much the same methods as System Shock 2: lighting, shifts between rapid ambushes and quiet observation of the aftermath, and leftover messages from the dead with signs of what was to come), but I can't speak for the gameplay. And Half-Life seems superior in plot (so far) and graphics.

1) What's your favorite Bible verse, and why is it significant to you?
Ooo, tough. I don't really have a single verse I live by -- far more important to take the book as a whole anyway -- but I'd say my favorite passage remains the Parable of the Prodigal Son. It's a great message of God's willingness to take us back, but the part I love about it is that it covers BOTH varieties of "lost sons": those who rebel against God's commands, and those who resent or refuse to offer His love and forgiveness. The latter is something I as a Christian need to remember, especially considering that Jesus ends the story without revealing whether the older son ever returns...
2) If you could have only one meal for the rest of your life, which would it be?
Can I say pizza without specifying the toppings? No? Okay then, going practical, it would need to be at least moderately nutritious, and tasty but not so distinct in its taste that I get sick of it quickly. Since you said "meal", I'll say broiled salmon over pasta with parmesan, with broccoli and cheese.
3) Say that you found yourself at the End of Time and encountered Spekkio. Which elemental magic do you think he would give you? (And don't limit yourself to just the types in Chrono Trigger.)
Water, most likely. Can be gentle or harsh, but rarely lethal and often nourishing (the choice of "clerics" in the game). Also, it tends to drift and follow inertia/gravity if not acted on.
4) What was your favorite childhood toy?
"Monkey," a stuffed animal. He had been in my crib almost from day one, and as late as age seven or eight he still kept me company at night. I nearly hugged his poor head off his shoulders over the years. If you've ever read/seen Velveteen Rabbit, believe me when I say that in the same world, Monkey would be swinging through the trees right now.
5) Which animal do you think your Patronus would be? Why?
Big enough for me to picture it as a protector, but cuddly enough for me to picture it as a friend. Probably some variety of wild cat: leopard, tiger, lion. Yeah, lion. My earliest fantasy novels were Narnia, so Aslan seems like something I'd associate with "mystical protector."
