My brush with fame

"I got hugged by the actor and hip-hop artist Heavy D, who is in [the movie "Big Trouble"]. (I told my son about this, and he said, 'Heavy D hugged YOU?' I took this to mean that he had either raised his opinion of me, or lowered his opinion of Heavy D.)" - Dave Barry

One of my brothers used to visit the GIA when it was still standing, and has read certain fanfics to boot. He was in my room last night, and happened to notice my latest Christmas card... and the name on the return address. His exact words: "Fritz Fraundorf sent you a Christmas card?"

*laughs... because she can relate* -_-

BNF-dom is a weird world. On the one hand, you're not really anybody... but people who you don't know know your name anyway and are afraid of/impressed by you and stuff. It's sort of creepy.

(And I seem to remember someone once who was weirded out that I'd dated "Toastyfrog". And hey, when I was being interviewed for GIA, I remember thinking for a moment "AAAH I'M ON IRC WITH ANDREW VESTAL TALKING ABOUT LATE 80S RAP!" -_-)

Big Name Fan. Term for particular fans that have gotten enough reputation in a fandom or community, whether through running a large website or writing fanfic or drawing fan art or having an inside into the subject of the fandom/community or whatever, that most of the fandom/community knows of them. And probably has an opinion on them. The fans that other fans look up to (or mock publically, in some cases).

Heh, I'm sort of a BNF in search of a fandom :B. A lot of people seem to still know my fics and stuff but I'm not really known for (or active in) the group associated with any particular game or show. As my icon sort of indicates, I'm like a ronin BNF; maybe I should start letting one of my sleeves hang down like Auron.

...although that probably wouldn't do much to help me stay out of the "mock publically" category ;)

(Speaking of me and cards, did you get the one I sent you?)
pantswarrior: Spock may not know what "menage a trois" means... (oops)

Er, yeah... I kinda meant to say something but I've been feeling really crappy in every possible way since a little before Christmas, so I haven't said much at all to anyone unless they badger me and stuff.

But uh, thanks, it's cute. =)
